Generate Traffic in 7 Simple Ways

Tip 1: Submitting To Directories
Directories can be very powerful. Not only can they give you tiny spurts of traffic, but they can also build up a lot of backlinks for you. Submitting to directories is pretty simple. You find different directories, fill out the form (name, email, website URL), and then click submit. After that you will get a confirmation via email and your URL will be added to that directory in a few days, weeks, or months; it varies for each directory. You could always pay for directory submission, but honestly, you should stick to free directories at first.
Tip 2: Create "Link Bait"
Link bait is basically content on your website that causes people to link back to it. Something funny, something entertaining, something informative, or just something with a little bit of flare. If some body likes it, they will link back to it on their website. This is the best way to drive traffic because it shows that your website is genuinely interesting. This is always a nice form of traffic, but don't rely on it whole heartedly.

Tip 3: Join Forums and Contribute
Forums are a great place to get information and to generate free traffic hits. The secret to using a forum is not spamming; it's actually the opposite. Being a member and contributing information, as well as being helpful, is that secret. Don't just sign up, put in a sig file, and start posting garbage. Members will catch on to you very quickly. Instead, don't add a sig file until you've got 50-100 posts and until you have been a member for at least a month. It may be hard, but it will be better for you in the long run. After that months time, add a nice attention grabbing sig file to your profile and then post away. Don't go overboard though!

Tip 4: Have Reliable Web Hosting
This tip is more for keeping visitors happy than it is for generating free web site traffic. When someone visits your site and it is down due to technical problems, they immediately get turned off. Even if they have been a loyal member for quite some time, you drop a notch on their "respectability" meter. To avoid this, you should get the best hosting possible and avoid free hosting services. All free services aren't necessarily bad, it's just that you never know where you stand with them. Too many ads, unannounced downtimes, limited bandwidth, poor support, and plethora of other things that could pose a threat to your website success. Generally speaking, it just isn't worth the hassle. Go with a paid hosting service. It is safer, more reliable, and it usually only costs 10 bucks a month. You won't regret it.

Tip 5: Use E-bay
E-bay is seen by many people as just an auction website used to sell and buy a multitude of different things, but it is really so much more. E-bay is practically a web site traffic generator that can be used by anyone at any given time. Obviously, you have to have something to sell, but that typically isn't a problem. You can sell E-books (resell rights can be bought from many different sites) for less than a buck and start generating traffic in a big way. You'll sell them for 99 cents and then you'll make it so that they must get the E-book from your site or even submit their E-mail to get receive their purchase. There are a lot of ins & outs to E-bay marketing, but they are definitely worth learning.

Tip 6: Give Away an E-book
Sounds simple enough, right? Well, it is. You merely acquire an E-book (with resale/distribution rights) and offer it to others for free. People love to get freebies, so this technique is full proof. You can even use it as an incentive for people interested in your mailing list. Get the word out by using forms and even free classified ads websites. The power of a freebie is undeniable; don't ignore it!

Tip 7: Start an Article Marketing Campaign (THE BEST FOR LAST)
This is probably the best free way to drive traffic to web site. It's not only easy to do, it's REALLY, REALLY powerful. Write a few articles, stick in some keywords, add a eye catching resource box, and submit it to big name directories; bingo, you're finished. There are a few more intricate details to article marketing, but that is the basic process in a nutshell. A single article can generate thousands of free traffic hits in just a SINGLE month. Admittedly, it would have to be a great article and extremely well targeted, but the possibility is there. If you aren't a great writer, then you need to start practicing & improving your skills. Either that, or hire someone to write the articles for you (the rates for most writers are anywhere from $5-$25 per article).

So what’s a blog? Blogging is just a short name for a web log. These are actually short comments written about personal matters or your business. They are similar to a daily diary.
Different types of blog:

+ News

Here are some tips for marketing:
Make signature files with your blog link included- use in all emails
Put your blog link in your bio box for every article you distribute
Submit to all the blogging directories
Promote your blog link in your newsletter, on your website and anywhere

By getting you indexed quickly into Google’s search engine
Providing valuable resources to visitors-improving quality
This is one of the easiest and cost effective promotions you can do. Because it is so easy and free there is a fair amount of abuse of this method of promotion. You will need to be very careful how you blog for this to be completely effective. Try to always remember the Google way. The Art of the Keyword

This topic is so important that I am writing this entire arcticle for the subject. This is a easy to understand, basic concept around keywords. Well, I have to be honest. I've mislead you. It's not keywords. The art of keywods is actually to use key phrases.

What do you mean, key phrases? Let's say that you have a website about computers. So what is your keyword? Obviously computers, right? Here's a small exercise for you to do. Go to Google. Once there, type in the word computers. Ok, from the results, do you see how many websites were returned with the word computers? 448,000,000!!!! Ouch!! What are the chances of you getting the the first page. Forget the first page, what are the chances of you making the millionth page? See my point?

Alright, now put in the key phrase, "my super computers." See the results. 40,000,000. Ahhhh. Now I ask the same previous question. What are the chances of you getting to the first page. What about the 2nd or 3rd? Much better chances. See when you use key phrases versus keywords, you better your odds of winning in the search engines. Why battle against all that competition?

Doesn't mean you do not have to, but I recommend that you mix it up. I would go after some main key phrases and maybe one or two target keywords. I gurantee that you will hit the top 10 (if done correctly) for your key phrases faster than the keywords.

Here are some tools that can help you better target your key phrases to know how the competition is. I've used these personally and they work well. Some are free services, others you have to pay. The best one that I prefer is Nichebot, but I will list the others for you to choose which will work best for you.

1. Wordtracker- Pay service
2. Overture- Free
3. Nichebot- Free
Use the tools to check the competitiveness of the keyword you want to target. Try to focus on ones that are searched a decent amount of time with the least competition as possible. Don't worry if your keyword doesn't have a extreme amount of searches. A number 10 position with a somewhat competitive keyword can generate a few hundred hits a day on one of the Top 3 search engines.

Once you have your target keywords (phrases), spread them throughout your website. These are the keywords that you will use to top of the SE's. Insert them in a user readable Title andMeta Description. Bold and italicize them once or twice in the body. Fully optimize your site for those target keywords. Don't forget to use them in your anchor text for backlinks. Not sure what I am talking about? CSS Pagination

Google has a serious problem with ranking long articles which are divided into several parts. Also long one page articles will outrank short ones usually. Apart from that the usability is key in aking your visitors read the whole article so you don’t want users neither to scroll for ages nor to click a link and send a request each time they want to get to the next page of your article.

Absolute Positioning

The higher your content is on a given page the more it counts for Google. Google does not see a page like a human being, it crawls the code. Thus the higher your content is in the code the better. So if you have a complex site with lots of menus, scripts and other gimmicks you should consider absolute positioning otherwise Google might even stop crawling your page before it reaches the main content. You can place the actual content high up in

Styling h1, h2, h* Headlines

In HTML the h1 headline appears huge by default, the h2 is still much larger than the rest of the page copy etc. Many web designers thus used divs and spans for headlines for ears to style them the way needed. Now Google won’t know what the headline is unless you tell Google by using h* tags. It’s like in 1999: You really need to use h1, h2 etc.

sIfr/Image Replacement for Headlines

Many people will argue that styling headlines with CSS is not enough for web designers. They are in fact right. I think it’s by now grotesque that we’re in 2008 and we still are limited to less than a dozen basic standard “web safe” fonts for web design. We were meant to have flying cars by 2000 and now we do not even have real typography on the web. Many people have tackled this problem with image replacement techniques for headlines, which in short will hide the original headline and insert an image in it’s place. Some of them are fairlydavnaced , others are very simple. No isn’t it hidden text again? Yes, it is! Also some of these methods will hamper your SEO efforts moredfirectly as the crawlers won’t recognize the headline anymore.

Using Lists (ul/ol)

Most SEO experts agree by now that so called keyword density is not a major positive ranking factor. It means that mentioning your keywords 20 times instead of 5 will not make you rankbetter in Google. You may get penalized for so called keyword stuffing though. Now what to do in case where you really need to use the same words over and over? Use an unordered orordered list. Google allows repetition in lists without enalizing you. With CSS you can style lists in any way you desire so that if you do not want a list to be clearly visible list style it accordingly. Some people do even a whole site design without tables and layers (divs) or even spans.

Nofollow Attribute

Contrary to what some people believe the nofollow attribute like in a href=”page.html”
rel=”nofollow” does not prevent a page from being crawled by Google. As nofollow does not help against Spam whatsoever, as it was its original purpose at which it failed completely, what then is nofollow good for from the webmaster perspective?

Pure CSS Menus

While pure CSS menues are not really a trick most people still assume that you need JavaScript or other enhancements to make dynamic menus. Well it’s not true, many advanced CSS only menus offer slick interactivity while being the best choice for Google and other search engine spiders
